Why window replacement should be left to the professionals.

Living day to day, the thought of replacing windows probably doesn’t cross your mind as often as other household concerns. For instance, fixing the dishwasher, replacing the gutters, picking up the kids, or preparing dinner take precedent over windows maintenance. However, after considering how important they really are to a structure, an upgrade seems more worthwhile.

Windows are the portals to the outside world. They let the sun and breeze pass through, they block the wind and cold, and offer protection from intruders. With something so important to do and so little time, the thought of a DIY project may come to mind. After all, people on TV and online do it all the time, how hard can it really be? Well, the truth is a lot can go wrong without having this task professionally done, and multiple errors means lots of money down the drain.

Problems associated with faulty work

Hewitt and Danese Contractors and Builders have served NJ and PA communities for decades, and know the consequences associated with a faulty job. Cracks and gaps cause shabby insulation, which means more energy is needed to heat or cool a house. The more energy, the higher the electric and gas bill is. Another problem with gaps is moisture making its way inside. As many of you probably know, excess moisture leads to problems with the structural integrity of the building, and other unwanted issues like mold.

Aside from energy waste and mold growth, condensation between gaps or cracks is another common unwanted occurrence. Generally, a windows life is between 15-30 years, but this is only if it’s properly put in. In my cases, people think the problem is with the window itself, but it’s actually from buildup of condensation. Experienced professionals like Hewitt and Danese Contractors and Builders know how to create a barrier from water vapor, so nothing seeps in from the outside.

The benefits of having professionals do the job

The average home loses 30% of its heating and cooling energy through air leaks around windows and doors. A simple upgrade or replacement can lower bills up to 15% per year, according to Lavish Home’s website.  They add, “ A recent study by Energy Star revealed that by switching out your single-pane or even your newer double-paned, clear-glass windows to energy-efficient windows, you can save up to $465 a year.” Who wouldn’t want to save close to $500 a year?

In addition to energy efficiency, properly installed windows provide added protection from potential intruders. Old windows often make for an easy entrance into any home, simply because they were installed differently. Today, installments make sure everything fits snugly, and latches and locks tightly. Plus, new windows give any house added value, which is great for resale. Or, you can sit back and enjoy the benefits of new windows yourself. It’s a win-win situation.

Perhaps after reading this, windows will suddenly make their way to the top of the “to-do” list. When that time comes, Hewitt and Danese Contractors and builders are ready for the project.
